NEWPORT – West Canada Valley’s goalkeeper, Caden Ludwig provided a shutout performance for his team against the Sherburne-Earlville Marauders Saturday as the host team captured the 1-0 win.

“Caden played a phenomenal game,” said S-E head coach Michael Rodriguez. “His command of the box and two point blank range saves frustrated our guys. Our offense created opportunities and chances, but could not get it past Caden.”

A scoreless game until the clock showed nine minutes remaining, West Canada’s offense caught the Marauders’ defense on a counter attack. After several defensive miscues by S-E, Indians’ Oren Valerio was left wide open on the far post and capitalized on West Canada’s best offensive opportunity in the game to go ahead.

Sherburne-Earlville outshot West Canada Valley 8-6 but were unable to find the back of the net. Ludwig ended the afternoon with eight saves.
