NORWICH – A big name in contemporary Christian music will take the spotlight at the Chenango County fairgrounds this year, bringing with it a mix of uplifting worship and alternative rock to the local stage.

Calvary Baptist Church and CV Free Church in Norwich have teamed up to add the Christian performing group Sidewalk Prophets to the 2019 Chenango County Fair concert lineup. The band will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9. Event organizers it’s is a chance to give a positive experience to concertgoers while sharing Godly encouragement.

“Because we live in a rural area, people looking to enjoy Christian music and live concerts typically have to drive quite a distance to attend any of these events,” said event co-organizer Tina Lindridge. “Since [Sidewalk Prophets] are a bigger name in the music business, we expect their gifts and talents, their knowledge and experiences to lend a positive experience for all who attend.”

Sidewalk Prophets have steadily gained traction in the Christian music scene since releasing their first independent album in 2003. In 2007, the group scored a hit with the release of “These Simple Truths” which featured the song “The Words I Would Say.” The album was lauded in the Christian music industry and led to the the band’s nod for a 2010 GMA Dove Award for New Artist of the Year.
