ELMIRA – The Greene Trojans had a hard time getting the bats going against Thomas A. Edison’s Bella Willsey, who once again started in the circle for the Spartans. Willsey brought the Trojans season to an end as she held Greene to one hit in seven innings as Edison claimed the Class C semifinal win by a score of 11-0 Thursday.

The one hit by the Trojans came off the bat of Olivia Kennedy, sending a screaming line-drive to centerfield for a single. As the score was 2-0, in favor of Edison, Greene’s Payton Yahner stepped into the batter’s box and laid down the sacarifice bunt and moved Kennedy into scoring position.

However, Kennedy was stranded at second after a third-out strikeout by Willsey ended the Greene threat and the inning to hold the two-run lead.

The Spartans put up five runs in the third inning, securing their spot in the Section IV Class C final against Harpursville at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the BAGSAI Softball Complex, located in Binghamton.

Kennedy struck out eight as the starting pitcher for Greene Thursday. She surrendered nine hits over six innings and had six earned runs against her.

The Edison offense also took advantage of the four miscues by the Trojan fielders, leading to five other runs in the game.
