ENDICOTT – Records were broken, some shattered by the Norwich Track and Field team at the Section IV State Qualifier meet on Wednesday and Thursday afternoon at Union-Endicott High School.

The Norwich 4x400 meter girls’ relay team of Hailey Colabelli, Katie Gawronski, Nicole Jeffrey and Lucie Martin broke a record that previously stood for 19 years on Thursday afternoon. The foursome, however, missed qualifying for the New York State Championship meet by two-tenths of a second and just one place.

Relay team member Gawronski did qualify for the 400 meter hurdles event, breaking her previously set record and placing second with a time of 1:06.25. Gawronski will return to the state championship meet after making her first appearance a year ago in the same event where she placed eighth at Cicero-North Syracuse.

Joining her at the championships, which will be held at Middletown High School on June 7 and 8, is brother Gabe Gawronski. Gabe placed first in the 400 meter dash, crossing the finish line ahead of all other participants in the event and in a time below 50 seconds. Gawronski’s time of 49.94 was nearly a second faster than the second place finisher, Nathan Wilsoncroft of Horseheads (50.8 seconds).
