MARCELLUS – One of the better seasons that the Lady Marauders of Sherburne-Earlville has had since 2015, came to close Tuesday afternoon after the 14-seeded team fell 7-1 to No. 3 Marcellus in the Section III Class B tournament.

In her final game wearing a Marauders’ uniform, Brooke Hailston was in the circle, throwing all seven innings. She ended her career with a strikeout as she pitched to contact against the Mustang batters. Hailston finished with eight wins and nearly 200 strikeouts for her two-year stint at the varsity level.

The first inning saw Sherburne-Earlville score an early run as Tessa Cole singled on the first pitch of her at-bat, sending Alex Kolber in for the 1-0 lead.

Unfortunately, it was the only run scored by the Marauders for the game, despite their four hits. Cole led the S-E offense as she went 2-for-3 with one RBI in the game. Her second hit came in the top of the fourth when she started the inning with a lead-off single to center.

The bottom of the second inning is when Marcellus tied things up at 1-1. The Mustangs’ Aubrey Fraher drove in one when she singled to the third baseman Kolber. On the throw to first, Fraher’s teammate Emily Durand came into score and Fraher was safe at first.

The home team added another run in the second inning, but were held scoreless in the third as Hailston and the Marauders were able to get out of a bases loaded jam.
