ELMIRA – The host Thomas A. Edison Spartans scored four in the first inning of the game, giving the Greene Trojans the task of pulling off a comeback in the second round of the Section IV Class C Tournament. Unfortunately, the early lead by Edison was too much for Greene to completely overcome, falling 5-3 Monday afternoon.

The Trojans ended the game out hitting the Spartans, eight hits to seven hits, but Edison used two errors to score two of their five runs.

Greene answered the four-run first inning by the Spartans with a score in the second, cutting the lead down to three runs. The Trojans then added one in the fourth frame to put the deficit at just two.

In the top of the fifth inning, Owen Howell started the trip to the plate for Greene with a lead-off single on the sixth pitch of the at-bat. He then stole second base to set himself up in scoring position and moved to third when teammate Brandyn Scott hit a grounder to Thomas Edison’s shortstop.

Facing two outs in the inning, Logan Kennedy took the first pitch he saw in the batter’s box and sent screaming to right field for a double. Moving on contact was Howell, scoring from third for the third run of the game for Greene to make it a one run difference.
