Lady Trojans Homer Twice In The 1st But Fall Late To The Hornets, 4-3

GREENE – Harpursville stole the lead late in the game and held on to upset the second-seeded Lady Trojans of Greene 4-3 victory over Greene on Wednesday.

The Hornets were down 3-1 in the top of the fifth inning a single by Harpursville’s Kaitlyn Dattoria got the inning started for the visiting team. With a walk and two errors by the Trojans’, Harpursville took the 4-3 and did not allow Greene to tack on another run in the contest.

The Trojans’ came out swinging in their first trip to the plate, hitting two solo home runs over the fence. Greene’s McKenna Sergi sent the first one deep and was followed by Olivia Kennedy’s long ball, helping the home team take the early lead.

Greene closed out the first inning with the 3-0 lead but the Hornets cut the margin down to two when they tacked on their first run of the game in the top of the fourth.

Harley Bunker earned the victory on the rubber for Harpursville. She allowed six hits and three runs over seven innings, striking out seven and walking one.

Kennedy took the loss for Greene, surrendering six hits and four runs over seven innings,. She racked up 12 strikeouts in the loss. .
