NORWICH – The Norwich track and field teams continued their dominance in a dual meet on the track Tuesday afternoon as both the boys and girls defeated the Oneonta Yellowjackets by a large margin.

The Purple Tornado boys’ team took the meet by a final score of 102-39, winning all but three events in the meet.

In the three events the Yellowjackets claimed first place in, Paul Zimmer came across the finish line first in two. Zimmer took both of the long distance events – the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Oneonta’s 4x100 meter relay team finished the event first with a time of 50.9.

Norwich’s Gabe Gawronski was the top winner for the meet taking home a first place finish in three individual events and was the member of the 4x400 meter relay team that dominated the track. Gawronksi, who ran the last leg of the relay, finished the event in a relaxed pace as the Tornado were nearly a 300 meters ahead of the second place team.

Gawronski ran a 53.5 in the 400 meter race and finished the 800 meter run in 2:16. He also participated in the high jump during the meet, clearing a final height of 5 feet-10 inches.

The Tornado’s Eric Conant, another member of the 4x400 meter relay team, continued to shine as the top sprinter on the team. Conant grabbed first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.4 seconds and added the 200 meter to his winning sheet, crossing the finish line at 23.1 seconds.

Griffin Mills and Noah Buffalini joined Gawronski and Conant for the 4x400 meter team that finished the event with a time of 4:05. Mills jumped 19 feet-7.5 inches to come away with first place in the long jump while Buffalini cleared 7 feet in the pole vault.

Norwich’s Zack Lowe was also a two-event winner for the home team, stealing both of the throwing events. Lowe launched the discus 135 feet-3 inches for the top distance in the event. He also tossed the shot put at 48 feet-10 inches to claim first, scoring the home team more points in the win.

Other winners for Norwich included the 4x800 meter relay team of Stanton Baker, Nolan Reid, Julian Roque and Makaio Sutton that finished the event in 9:18.6, Jacob Russell in the 110 meter hurdles (18.5 seconds), Nik Barber in the 400 meter hurdles (1:02) and triple jump winner Eli Craddock with a distance of 38 feet-two inches.

The Norwich girls’ team finished first in all three relay events. The 4x100 team (Angela Carlson, Riley Marsh, Sydney Coggins, Hailey Coalabelli) sprinted to a time of 51.9 seconds as the first team to cross the finish line for the meet event.

With nearly the same team in both the 4x400 and 4x800 meter teams, the Lady Tornado claimed first place in the two events. The 4x400 meter team, made of up of Lucie Martin, Katie Gawronski, Nicole Jeffrey, Hailey Colabelli came in with a time of 4:19.10 while the 4x800 meter team finshed at 11:34.90. Martin, Gawronski and Jeffrey were joined by Andrienne Vedder for the longer relay event.
