NORWICH – New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officials confirmed Thursday there is an open investigation in the City of Norwich.

DEC officers from the crime investigations unit conducted a search of Kurt Beyer Pool and the nearby area last week, also searching near the Canasawacta Creek and across it, at Rotary Park.

On Friday the DEC Public Information Office released an amended statement: "DEC Environmental Conservation police officers and investigators with the Bureau of Environmental Crimes Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at Rotary Park and Kurt Beyer Pool in the City of Norwich Wednesday. The investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time."

Officials declined to confirm any details or what the investigation was about.

Residents reported seeing several officers and DEC vehicles at Kurt Beyer Park on Wednesday.

The park is actually two parks divided by the Canasawacta Creek. The pool side is in the city and named Kurt Beyer, and the far side, across the creek, is Rotary Park, in the Town of Norwich.
