Marauders Clinch Center State Conference Divisional Title In Regular Season Finale

By: Meagan Schulz

CLINTON – The Marauders boys basketball team of Sherburne-Earlville returned home to cut down the nets in their gym following a 72-48 win over Clinton as they clinched the Center State Conference Division-I crown.

The Marauders lost their first and only conference game Monday night to Holland Patent. Needing the win over Clinton to claim the championship outright, S-E took no time at all to gain an early lead which they held on to for the remainder of the contest.

Four of Sherburne-Earlville’s starters put up points in the opening quarter of play where their balanced scoring helped them to a eight point lead.

Showing no signs of letting up, the Marauders extended their margin to 18 points after outscoring Clinton 21-11 in the second. Once again the even scoring between the S-E players contributed to their large advantage by the halftime break. The offensive stanza was paced Owen Rodriguez’s seven points.
