NORWICH – After several months of police searching for her, a Norwich woman got an additional year in jail after she missed over 15 probation appointments and told the court she didn’t realize she had to check in with law enforcement after her release from jail.

Nichole M. McDaniel, 29, of Norwich, was returned to jail on Friday after violating the terms of her interim probation. She was sentenced to a year in the Chenango County Correctional Facility.

According to Chenango County Court Judge Frank Revoir Jr., McDaniel missed 18 probation appointments and has had a warrant for her arrest out since August 28. Revoir said she was arrested by a City of Norwich police officer earlier this month.

“You have completely and utterly failed on interim probation,” said Revoir. “You were on probation starting in July, what would make you think you wouldn’t have to report in?”

McDaniel told the court she was unaware that she had to report to probation, and she was enjoying a sub at a local gas station when she was arrested.
