Marauders Top Holland Patent To Take 1st Place In Center State League Standings

SHERBURNE – Following their first league win of the season against Adirondack, the Marauders of Sherburne-Earlville defeated Holland Patent – the Center State Conference Division-I champions last season – 60-52 to take the top spot of the league Monday.

S-E’s Hunter Lane averaged 28.3 points per game prior to Monday’s league contest. Lane led the team with a game-high 30 points, nine of them coming from behind the 3-point line.

The Marauders came out strong in the first quarter with a 20-9 run over the Golden Knights behind 16 points from the senior guard of Sherburne-Earlville.

In the second, Holland Patent answered by going on a 23-9 run of their own, taking the lead with back-to-back 3-pointers by Max Thomann and D.J. Harter just before halftime.

Shaking off the eight minute stretch, Sherburne-Earlville came out of the break and took the lead for good with two made free throws by Gabe Irwin. Irwin’s shots from the foul line capped off the 16-11 spurt by the Marauders in the third.

During the final eight minutes of play, S-E out scored the Golden Knights 15-9 by keeping the defensive pressure on to pick up the eight point win.

Ryan Asma added nine points in the win for the Marauders while teammate Robert Hill chipped in eight points, all coming in the second half push.
