Lady Trojans keep Greene Tip-off trophy at home with back-to-back wins

GREENE – Two great showings in their first games of the season lead the Lady Trojans of Greene to the Greene Girls Basketball Tip-off tournament trophy. Saturday afternoon’s championship 49-26 win over Chenango Forks came after a 56-14 victory over Thomas A. Edison Friday night.

Greene opened the title game with a four point lead and extended it after a 9-3 second quarter run into halftime.

The Trojans rolled to the win after adding another third quarter run, putting them ahead by 18 points. Kylee Peck led Greene in the scoring column with 15. Nine of her points came from long-distance. McKenna Sergi capped off a weekend performance with 14 points while Emma Smith chipped in 10.

While Forks attempted to make a comeback in the fourth, scoring the only double digit quarter allowed by the Trojans’ defense, Greene put up big numbers in the final eight minutes as well to give the host team a 23 point win.

The Trojans’ reached the finals behind Smith’s game-high 19 points on Friday, out scoring Thomas A. Edison by five points on her own. Sergi recorded 10 points in the win while three of their teammates finished with six points each.

Thomas A. Edison scored eight points in the first against Greene but the Trojans’ defense held their opponent to just two points in each of the final three quarters.
