Tigers’ six minute scoring spurt leads to win over Trojans

ENDICOTT – The Greene Trojans 2018 football team was seeking its first Section IV football championship Friday night at Union-Endicott High school. Standing in their way were the Tigers of Tioga, winners of six heading into the Class D championship game.

In the second quarter, Greene’s Nate Parker picked off a Brady Worthing pass. Using six plays in the drive, the Trojans marched down the field to take the 7-6 lead with quarterback Nate Erickson running the ball in from eight yards out with Zach Gibbon tacking on the point after attempt.

Three plays of the six for the scoring drives included completed passes from Erickson to his receivers. The Trojans QB finished the night with 107 yards, tossing 10 completions in 23 attempts.

Tioga, the defending champs, responded on the ensuing possession. With 56 yards in front of them, the Tigers used a 33 yard toss from Worthing to his receiver Mason Booser to put them closer to the end zone. Just four plays later, Worthing blasted his was through Greene’s defensive line to get over the goal line.

After taking back the lead running back John Worthing game them in the first quarter, the Tigers never lost it again.

In fact, Tioga went on to score 23 points in a span of nearly six minutes long – starting towards the end of the second quarter and carrying over into the third.
