Marauders win three out of four straight games

SHERBURNE – The Marauders picked up their third win in four straight games Friday, defeating Herkimer 19-7 at home.

Sherburne-Earlville tallied 13 runs in the bottom of the first, setting the tone for Friday's game early. Their offense tacked on two more in the second and four in the third frames, giving S-E the 19-2 advantage.

Herkimer was able to score five in the fifth but it wasn't enough to keep the game going, ending the contest early due to the mercy rule.

Troy Fleming started on the rubber for the Marauders and came up big in those innings pitched according to S-E head coach Jay Tackabury.

“We've had four games in a row, which is tough on pitching,” said Tackbury. “I'm proud of the effort my guys showed this week. Playing four games in four nights, we came away with three wins. I'll take that any week.”

The Marauders' lone loss of the week came Thursday afternoon against Frankfort-Schuyler, in a final of 4-2.

The runs scored by F-S came in the first inning, an inning where Tackabury stated his defense made a few too many mistakes. “It ended up being the difference in the ball game,” said Tackabury.

Lagoe took the tough loss on the hill in the game, allowing just two earned runs in five innings of work.
