NORWICH – With the match tied 3-3, Norwich’s first doubles team, Austin Benenati and Nathan Christopherson, grabbed a third set win with a score of 6-3, helping the Purple Tornado tennis team pull out a tight match against Chenango Forks, beating them 4-3.

In their third match in as many days, Matt Giglio, Norwich’s fourth singles player, remained undefeated as he down his opponent 6-0 in the first set.

Giglio’s strong baseline play as well as his tough net play set him up for his third win of the season, winning the second set in a 7-5 tiebreaker.

Also winning their third match of the year to remain undefeated was the Purple’s second doubles team of Carson Maynard and Zac Marsh. The two took down the Forks teams in straight sets.

“These guys have been getting stronger every match, said Norwich head coach John Stewart. “They have great court coverage and a chemistry that is getting better every match.”

Norwich’s third doubles had to earn their match win in three sets. Avenging Tuesday’s loss, the duo of Jonathan Ryan and Jahlil Jones started off the first set of the match strong, winning 6-1. The second set, however, went in favor of Forks’ Anthony Schultz and Bogdan Kovalchak due to a few miscues.
