Welcome Decem-brrrr; Norwich businesses and organizations to hold festive events all month

NORWICH – With Christmas right around the corner, it’s no surprise that the City of Norwich is gearing up for the holiday season with a variety of exciting events for all ages.

Honor the memory of your loved ones this holiday season at the Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango County Memorial Tree Lighting Ceremony on Tuesday December 12, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the lobby of NBT Bank in Norwich. Community members are invited to enjoy live holiday music, listen to families who share their Hospice stories and help light the tree.

Hospice offers family and friends the chance to memorialize or honor that special someone with a beautiful ornament.

Exclusive 2017 ornaments are available for purchase. Proceeds from the ornament sale help pay for the care of current and future Hospice patients. Your ornament will be hung on the tree at NBT Bank until after the New Year and will feature the name of your loved one. If you would like Hospice to send an acknowledgement of your gift to a loved one, please place their name and address under the "in memory of" line on the order form. All ornaments will be mailed directly to your address after the first of the year.

The Chenango County Historical Society (CCHS) Museum will be hosting their Holiday Open House from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sunday, December 10. Sara Evenson says the CCHS Museum will be decorated from top to bottom with trees decorated by community groups.

The CCHS Museum will host raffles for a lottery ticket tree and a fresh handmade evergreen wreath. There will be the children’s activities, an old-fashioned cookie-walk, a family favorite, as well as the opening of a new exhibit on the railroad in Chenango County. This annual tradition is family friendly and all are invited to join the fun. For questions about the event, contact CCHS at director@chenangohistorical.org or call (607) 334-9227.

No holiday visit would be complete without a stop at the Paperback Exchange, next door to the CCHS at 77 Silver Street. The PBX is featuring holiday specials including free books for children, specials on holiday-themed books, and three beautiful gift baskets available for raffle. If you can't make it on December 10 you can stop in beforehand to buy your raffle tickets for a chance to win the baskets.

Join The Norwich Family YMCA for an afternoon of fun and frosting as it hosts a Gingerbread House Family Workshop on Sunday, December 3, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Families are invited to come and decorate a gingerbread house in this annual holiday tradition. All supplies are included, but bring your creativity! Families must pre-register at the YMCA front desk by Thursday, November 30. The registration fee is $10 per family for members and $15 per family for non-members. The YMCA invites everyone to come kick off the holiday season with them.

Parents, do you need a night out to go shopping, or just a night to yourselves? The Norwich YMCA Leaders Club will be hosting a Parents Night Out Holiday Edition on December 2 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Drop your kids off at the YMCA on the 2nd at 6 p.m. where they will provide snacks, crafts, games and movies.
