Numbers cause Blackhawk loss, despite strong individual showing

OXFORD – The Oxford Blackhawks wrestling team – a team with low numbers, a team that has not been able to secure many team wins, a team that shows heart in each match wrestled despite the score.

The Oxford Blackhawk wrestling team fell last night to the visiting Unatego Spartans by a lopsided score of 48-27. Despite the team score, and the massive amount of forfeits on the night, the Blackhawks were able to secure three of the five actual matches that were wrestled – a feat that would have ended that meet at a much closer 15-12 win for Oxford.

Despite this fantasy scenario, It was Oxford who snagged the first two forfeits before handing one back for the early team score of 12-6. At 126 pounds Oxford's Jade SanSoucie fell by pin to Samuel Cole in just 1:14, drawing the meet tie at 12-12.

That is when the Blackhawks saw their two best matches of the night happen, as 132 pounder Darren Law snagged an early pin over Tyler Bargowski in just 1:17. This pin was followed up by yet another pin for Oxford as 138 pounder Brenden Gager stuck Colby Flamensfeld – taking the match into the third period before Gager was able to find the combination for the pin at 4:16.
