CHENANGO COUNTY – Last week, Chenango County Treasurer William Craine reported the preliminary budget for the upcoming 2017 year to the Board of Supervisors which will be reviewed at the County's dedicated budget session on November 2 with the hopes of having a public hearing and adoption of the budget on November 22.

Craine noted that for the sixth straight year the budget complies with the New York State real property tax cap, and this year's proposed tax cap factor allows less than a 1 percent upward revision in taxes; the lowest adjustment factor since its inception in 2011.

The proposed $89.4 million budget adheres to six financial planning precepts which include:

• Having a balanced budget using reasonable revenue and expense expectations.

• Adhering to the tax cap (other than in exigent circumstances).
