Chenango Forks claims title at seventh annual Greene boys soccer tournament

GREENE – The Trojans hosted their annual two-day, four team tournament this past weekend on Friday, Sept. 16 through the Saturday, Sept. 17.

Of the four teams in this years tournament – Greene, Afton, Sherburne-Earlville, and Chenango Forks – it was the Blue Devils of Chenango Forks who would walk off George G. Raymond turf field the ultimate champions on the day, after defeating Greene in the finals 4-3.

• Greene would advance to the finals of their own tournament, following a 4-0 win over Afton, which saw solid performances from Kevin Halsteter (two goals one assist), Spencer Klumpp (one goal), Nolan Scofield (one goal) Mike Repp (one assist) and Liam Reid (one assist).

Greene would simply out-power the Crimson Knights in the qualifying game as they tallied up 20 shots on goal and five corners to Afton's three shots on goal and just one corner.

In the net for both teams: Greene saw Ryan Lohsen record two saves, while Kevin Gyurik would see time as well having none. For Afton Nate Austin was kept busy from the Trojan strikers as he recorded 14 saves on the day.

• Following a 1-0 Chenango Forks win over Sherburne-Earlville that Friday, the Blue Devils would also advance for a showdown of two of the premiere Section IV teams for the championship game, which was to be played on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m.

No other statistics were reported on the Sherburne-Earlville verses Chenango Forks match.
