‘Redneck Paradise Shindig’ ready for this weekend

NORWICH – A fundraiser’s in the works to benefit the Chenango County SPCA and give music lovers the chance to connect to some of their favorite local bands this weekend.

The annual “Redneck Paradise Shindig and Hoedown” will be held at the Chenango County Fairgrounds in Norwich on Saturday. The event will feature Master of Ceremony Gene Odom of the Lynyrd Skynyrd legacy (Ronnie Van Zant’s best friend and body guard), as well as six musical acts including: Jack Webster, Bad Influence Band, LJ Gates Band, Rabbit in the Rye, Rob Blackledge, and Tumbleweed Highway.

Shows will start at 2 p.m. at the grand stand (rain or shine) on Saturday and may run into the early morning hours of 1 a.m. or 2 a.m. on Sunday. Tickets are still available for purchase for $20 each at the Chenango County SPCA on County Road 32 in Norwich. Tickets will also be available at the gate the day of the event, still at the $20 price and free for kids ages 12 and under.

Proceeds from the event benefit different organizations from year to year. This year, money raised will help the CSPCA continue its mission of caring for lost and homeless pets, adopting pets to new homes, and educating families and the community about the needs of companion animals.

“It’s going to be a fun event that will help a good cause,” said event organizer Monty Holt.
