Oxford Edges Greene In Close Showdown On The Courts

OXFORD – Oxford varsity tennis hosted the Greene Trojans this past Thursday, May 5., edging the Trojans at 3-2 to earn the team win.

It was standout Francisco Quintana of Oxford who got the ball rolling the Blackhawks way in the first singles, when he earned a win over Greene's Jake Ledford in just two sets of 6-2 and 6-2.

Josh Nelson of Oxford continued what Quintana started, when he earned Oxford their second team point on the night defeating Trevor DeJager of Greene, 6-3 before blanking him in the final set at 6-0.

The Trojans would grab one back their way in third singles, when Nate Halsteter edged out Alyssa Hadge of Oxford, earning the win at 6-3 and 6-4.

The Blackhawks and Trojans split in doubles play, seeing first doubles go in favor of the Blackhawks for the win ultimately, and the second doubles go to the Trojans.

Gavin Wheatley and Jason Davis of Oxford would earn the winning point for Oxford when they defeated Katie Carey and Brynn Marker at 6-2 and 6-3.

Isaac Trass and Zach Westover would earn the second team point for Greene in the loss, defeating Megan Smith and Fletcher Nisbet of Oxford at 7-5 and 7-5.

With the win, Oxford tennis now improves to 4-2 overall, while Greene has now dropped to 1-4 on the season.
