Record number of volunteers go bald to support childhood cancer research

NORWICH – A record 57 area residents “Braved the Shave” on Saturday in Norwich to raise money for childhood cancer research at a St. Baldrick’s Foundation signature head-shaving event. Of the 57 shavees, 20 were females and 11 were children.

The event, one of the largest annual fundraisers in Chenango County, was held at the American Legion in Norwich.

“Right now we have collected over $28,500 and we know that we have additional funds coming in which are not reflected yet in that total,” said A. Wesley Jones, Volunteer Event Organizer for Norwich St. Baldrick’s. “At minimum this will be our second largest event in our 12 year history.”
