GREENE – Greene girls varsity basketball will be advancing in the Section IV class C tournament following their 47-29 win at home.

The lady Trojans hosted The Candor Indians Wednesday evening, Feb. 17.

Greene did not waste anytime getting to their game plan but seemed to get better as the game progressed into the second half.

“We are very strong in the second half,” said Greene head coach Dave Gorton.

The lady Trojans would in fact face a 3-point deficit heading into the halftime break, as they were down to the lady Indians 19-16.

This trend changed dramatically following the intermission, as Greene would outscore Candor 31-9 the rest of the game.

Greene’s Katie Carey had a big statement game, with 12 of her 21-points coming in the second half of play.

“Katie was outstanding and dominated on both ends of the floor. She nearly had a triple double. She had 12 rebounds and eight blocks,” said Gorton. “McKenna was great tonight too. She had some beautiful passes and was a leader on our defense.”

McKenna Sergi finished second in scoring for the Trojans and in the game with 14-points.
