WINDSOR– The Purple Tornado finished the tournament with five individuals walking off the mat in Windsor as champions this past Saturday Feb. 6, 2016.

Out of the 12 wrestlers Norwich brought to the class tournament all placed, as well as they managed eight finalists and five champions, something that significantly helped Norwich finish in second place as a team at 196.5 points, only behind the host and tournament champions Windsor at 209-points.

Despite winning the tournament, Windsor would only have two individual champions emerge, followed by two individuals place second.

Norwich’s Eli Rodriguez at 99-pounds, Dalen Geislinger at 120-pounds, Ty Rifanburg at 126-pounds, Zach Mills at 132-pounds, and Cole Rifanburg at 145-pounds all walked away with first place finishes.

“Everyone wrestled really well and they’re wrestling well at the right time,” said head coach Bob Hagenbuch.

Rodriguez would earn a 10-0 win in the semi-finals over Jalen McCarty to advance to the finals. Oddly enough fellow teammate Mike Squires, who had just earned himself an 8-0 win in the semi-finals Ethan Stotler of Waverly was there awaiting Rodriguez. Rodriguez would earn the win over Squires at 10-2.
