ONEONTA – The Norwich girls basketball team traveled to rival school Oneonta to hand the Yellowjackets a loss.

“We had a real nice start. I think we were leading 13-0 at the beginning of the game,” said head coach Josh Bennett.

The game would lead after the first quarter by a commanding 21-8 lead.

This stellar early game play for the Tornado would fade some midway through the game as the Tornado would be matched in scoring with Oneonta at 11-11 in the second quarter. The Norwich girls would still hold a slight lead at the half 32-19.

“From there(first quarter) the game got a bit sloppy. Got very physical and they kid of turned us into playing a bit sloppy,” said Bennett.

The second half of play for the Tornado would go in their favor ultimately despite a semi-rocky third quarter.

“We got some balanced scoring however and we defended well in pockets.

Just gotta clean up our play in the next week and be ready,” said Bennett.
