NORWICH – Following the disappointing loss to Class B State Champions Susquehanna Valley earlier in the week, Norwich bounced back in a big way with a statement win against Chenango Forks on Friday night, 74-30.

“It was very nice that we got everybody to score. It’s very nice that we got everybody in the book. Everybody gets some positive feelings going,” said Tornado head coach Josh Bennett.

The Tornado wasted no time in getting the offense going. After the first quarter, they took a commanding 23-8 lead, thanks to the dual play of Megan Komendarek and Shelby Benjamin, who had six points apiece.

The strong team effort continued to the half. Combined with fantastic play on the defensive end, with the Tornado containing the Blue Devils to just five points in the quarter, five players got on the score sheet for Norwich to help them open up a sizeable 39-13 lead at the half-time break.

The offense didn’t let up after the interval. Along with Megan Komendarek’s game-high 17 points for Norwich, three others, Kara Evans, Bridget Murphy and Makenzie Maynard all finished with double figures in scoring.

Bennett was proud of the way his team responded after the loss earlier in the week. He said, “We played with a lot more composure tonight. I thought that our spacing and our ball movement were really good. We moved the ball really well and shot the ball well also.”
