S-E football stunned by Jordan-Elbridge at home

SHERBUNRE - On Friday, October 2, the Sherburne-Earlville Marauders hosted Jordan-Elbridge in a game that would go to the Eagles 16-6.

On a cold night in Sherburne the home team started off the game with the ball. After multiple attempts running the ball and one first down, S-E would have to settle for a punt. Trading punts until the second quarter, neither team would reach the end zone. With just under a minute left in the first quarter, J-E would receive a punt and start with the ball on their own 20 yard line. The Eagles then would pound out multiple short yardage runs, wearing down the Sherburne-Earlville defense. With 8:31 seconds left in the half quarterback Chris Ryan dropped back to pass and found his receiver Kyle Humberstone for a 59 yard pass. Humberstone raced down the sidelines only to be tackled at the one yard line by an S-E defender. The very next play J-E's George Richarson took the ball up the middle and pounded his way to pay dirt.

S-E now had the ball and were down 7-0 mid way through the second quarter. Starting on their own 20, the Marauders slowly found their way up field, rattling off run after run. S-E quarterback Matthew Hull led the charge for his team, breaking off multiple big runs at key situations and completing big yardage passes. With just over three minutes left in the half S-E found themselves on the Jordan-Elbridge six yard line with a first and five. On first down Hull completed a five yard pass to Cody Beckwith and the Marauders were within striking distance. Hull took matters into his own hands and drove the ball into the end zone behind the blocking of his interior linemen. The ensuing two point conversion was no good and S-E was now down 7-6 with just over two minutes left to go in the second quarter.

The next drive would be a short one for Jordan-Elbridge, going three and out in less than one minute after S-E's lone score of the game. J-E dropped back to punt and gave the home team the ball on their own 44 yard line. Two plays later S-E would fumble on a run play and J-E would recover, giving them another chance to find the end zone with just 44 seconds left in the half. In a hurry-up offense J-E's Sam Robles ran the ball down to the S-E 27 yard line. Two plays later quarterback Dominic Walborn dropped back to pass and found Richarson for a 24 yard touchdown pass. The P.A.T. was good and J-E was now up 14-6 with 14 seconds left to go in the half.

The second half of play was a stalemate for both teams, the only score of the half came from a J-E safety. In the fourth quarter a bad S-E snap sailed over the Marauders and landed in their own end zone for two points for J-E, giving the game its final score of 16-6.
