Two arrested after trespass complaint and foot pursuit

NORTH NORWICH – Two men were taken into custody by Chenango County Sheriff's deputies Wednesday morning following a trespass complaint that took place in the Town of North Norwich.

Chenango County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a private residence after a 911 priority complaint was received by county dispatch Wednesday morning shortly after 9 a.m.

According to authorities, the two men - identified as 19–year–old Daqon J. Holmes and 20–year–old Dashire D. Jackson - are both from the Utica area.

It was reported to authorities that Holmes and Jackson had entered the residence located on Posson Road and refused to leave the premises until a male complaintant paid the two men $250 dollars. The victim placed a 911 call shortly thereafter.

After arrival to the scene just off State highway 12, detectives quickly located the defendants within the home. While attempting to interview the two subjects, authorities said Holmes fled on foot toward State highway 12, crossed the highway entering the overgrowth of the defunct railroad tracks and took cover in tall brush along the tracks.

Meanwhile, a flagman directing traffic on the highway observed the entire incident and was able to assist deputies in locating the absconder.

Holmes was easily located and taken into custody without further incident.

According to Lieutenant Richard Cobb with the CCSO, it still remains unclear how or why the two men arrived at the property or what the motive for demanding payment in exchange for leaving the residence might have been.

What is known, is that at least two K-9 units were dispatched to the scene following the foot pursuit and search of the area.

Both Holmes and Jackson were charged with criminal trespass in the second degree – a class A misdemeanor – and arraigned in the Town of North Norwich Court Wednesday afternoon.

The two men were remanded to the Chenango County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1000 cash bail. The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the New York State Police and the City of Norwich Police Department.
