Norwich, Sherburne stage actors unite for ‘Music Man’

SHERBURNE – Nearly 50 members from two area stage groups – The Norwich Theater Company and sister guild Sherburne Music Theater Society – recently made an exciting decision to join forces in the upcoming production of the six-time TONY Award winning musical, The Music Man.

The musical comedy with a family-friendly storyline was penned by Meredith Wilson and has been entertaining audiences since 1957.

The production will be staged at the Sherburne Earlville Central high school auditorium, and curtain goes up at 7 p.m. on August 21 and 22 with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday August 23.

“Music Man” follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill (Jon Stockton) as he cons the good people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band he vows to organize - this despite the fact he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian (Jennifer Oliver), who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain's fall. The Stage Director is Donna Moren and Music direction is being handled by David Burch with Choreography by Trish Docksteader and Stage Management by Kate Reynolds.
