Holmquist Tabbed New S-E Varsity Football Coach

SHERBURNE – After serving on the varsity coaching staff the past nine seasons, Edward Holmquist was tabbed by the Sherburne-Earlville district earlier this week as its next varsity head coach.

Holmquist, a 1991 Norwich High School graduate, has 19 years of football coaching experience. He takes over for Mike Jasper, who guided the Marauders to Section III postseason appearances in each of the past three seasons.

“We’re really excited about the direction our program is headed,” Holmquist said. “Our kids and coaching staff work extremely hard year-round to make sure that we are ready for the season. We’ve made significant strides over the past few years. Our kids have seen some of the best competition in Central New York, and I think the younger guys are starting to see the commitment and dedication it takes to play at a championship level.”

The Marauders got off to an eye-popping 4-0 start a season ago before dropping three of their final four contests, including a first-round exit in the sectional playoffs for a third year in a row.
