Seton Catholic Central 7, Norwich 2

NORWICH – While the wind and cold provided near-frigid playing conditions, it was Seton Catholic Central hurler, David George, who put the Purple Tornado bats on ice in Thursday’s opening game.

George pitched five innings striking out nine and allowing just one hit in the Saints’ victory. “George pitched well, and he’s only going to get better this season,” said Norwich coach Rich Turnbull. “The biggest difference is that we didn’t put the ball in play as much as they did, and they definitely hit the ball harder than us.”

Norwich trailed 2-0 entering the fourth inning when the error bug struck. NHS committed all five of its errors over the next two innings as Seton built its lead to 7-0. Norwich scored two runs in the sixth inning to break up the shutout. Patrick Marks had the lone extra-base hit for Norwich connecting for a double.
