NORWICH – The Relay for Life of Chenango County will usher in the 2015 fundraising season this Tuesday, Feb. 10, from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Morrisville State College community room on Conkey Ave. in Norwich.

The kickoff event is open to the public and is for anybody in the community who may be interested in learning more about The Relay for Life. The event will host past teams and team captains, new teams and team captains, Relay for Life of Chenango County committee members, an informational meeting, and a question and answer session for attendees. Kristina Shaw, Relay for Life Event Chair, said, “all ages are welcome at the kickoff event – bring your kids.”

The purpose of the event is to launch the 19th year of the Relay for Life here in Chenango County and to inform the public, and Relay participants, about this year's event. “At the kickoff event, we will introduce the committee, lay out our goals for the year, give details and requirements for event participation, and provide different goals for teams to achieve throughout year,” said Shaw.

“Relay for Life is really a worldwide fundraiser for the American Cancer Society,” said Helen Gregory, the American Cancer Society Staff Partner for Chenango County's event. “It’s the largest fundraiser of it’s kind in the world and it’s where we raise most of our money to go toward research, education, advocacy, and services for our cancer patients.”
