Several downtown trees to be bombed this weekend

NORWICH – A group of Chenango County women looking to raise awareness for a beloved organization are warning pedestrians and motorists in and around downtown Norwich to not be alarmed if they should happen upon the carnage of a bomb site this weekend.

No need to call in the S.W.A.T. team, we’re talking yarn-bombs, here.

In a unique effort to generate interest and support of the Bullthistle Farmers' (winter) Market, a collaboration was formed and thus the genesis of yarn-bombing a series of downtown trees was born.

“We just thought that this would be a very different, fun and vibrant way to gain the attention of the everyone passing though the area,” said event organizer Patty Stimmel.

Stimmel, who also works as a Horticulture Educator along with her duties as Bullthistle Farmers’ Market Monitor for the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Chenango County, says that the group has been busy knitting “sweaters” that will be placed upon as many as twelve trees that line the sidewalks of South Broad St.
