NORWICH – While the Norwich varsity boys' basketball team will travel to New York City for a tournament, the junior varsity club will continue as host of the annual Tom Schwan Memorial Basketball Tournament.

The tourney, now in its 19th year, will be a JV-only event, and it keeps the memory vivid of the late Evening Sun reporter, who covered local sports for 26 years.

An all-star field joins Norwich. Scheduled to appear are Maine-Endwell, Moravia, and Section III's Westhill. Westhill's varsity club won the New York State Class B state title this past March.

The tournament opens this Friday with Maine-Endwell facing Westhill at 6 p.m., and Norwich will square off against Moravia at 7:45 p.m. The consolation game and finals are slated for Saturday starts at 1 and 3 p.m. respectively. An MVP and all-tournament team will be selected at the conclusion of the tournament.
