FENTON - A switch of positions midway through the season has paid off for Norwich.

Junior Michaela Fazio scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season, the latter coming with 30 seconds left in the second overtime giving the Tornado their second victory over Chenango Valley this season.

Chenango Valley's goalie mishandled a ball in the penalty area, and sophomore Gabby Mirabito poked the ball loose to Fazio for the winner. Until the midway point of the season, Fazio had served as a defender for head coach Adam Sprague. "Michaela gives us a formidable defense, but with her on the offensive end, I think it gives our team more balance," Sprague said.

Norwich raced to a two-goal lead with Alyssa Welch connecting 10 minutes into the game, and Fazio scored just three minutes later.

CV rallied behind goals from Alaina Carman and Dani Forbidussi.

"It was looking like a victory might slip through our fingers, but we literally worked hard until the last play, and I'm very proud of our team and its effort," Sprague said.

Norwich (4-7-1) hosts powerhouse Chenango Forks Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
