Artist Bonnie Gale to provide lantern making at The Place

NORWICH – The Place has announced that it will be working with local artist Bonnie Gale to provide a five-week Lantern-Making Workshop for teens in Chenango County. Ms. Gale, who applied and received a New York State Decentralization (DEC) grant through the Chenango Council of the Arts to make this project possible, will work with students to design willow stick framework lanterns covered with paper and lit with LED lights. Lanterns may be as simple as pyramid shapes or as extravagant as large scale fantastic creatures, made by several participants. The teens themselves will determine the design and form.

The workshops will take place in The Place’s new teen room located at the UCC, 11 West Main St., Norwich. Workshops will be held on Wednesdays from 3pm-4:30pm: October 1st, October 8th, October, 29th, November 5th, and November 19th. Teens will have the opportunity to showcase their lanterns in the Christmas Parade in Norwich on November 29th. The program is free to teen 12-18 years of age who reside in Chenango County. Teens must participate in a minimum of two workshops.
