Centennial Quilt Show Planned In Norwich

NORWICH – The Norwich centennial anniversary celebration continues with another round of events that were prepared in careful consideration of the year long celebration – much like patchwork.

Next weekend, the Piecemakers Quilt Guild, in conjunction with the Norwich Centennial Committee, has sponsored an extensive quilt show that is akin to the past.

Long before the today's standard practice of immediate gratification and entertainment, hobbies like quilt making were commonplace as a means for communities to congregate and socialize, right up into the early part of the 20th century.

In those early years of life, in the what was to become the City of Norwich, most women were busy spinning, weaving and sewing in order to clothe their family – making the art of patchwork and quilting more of a creative outlet.
