Active bodies, active minds: Health Department walks 200 miles

NORWICH – The Chenango County Health Department staff recently visited nearly every town in Chenango County to educate community members of the importance of physical activity and lead prevention. The group utilized pedometers to monitor their distance walked, and strived to pass the 200 -mile mark as a team.

The message of the group was “Check Your Steps, Turn off the TV and Move.”

Door hangers provided information with protective strategies for lead prevention. This event took place in the month of June, with a staff of 16 members. 5,387 door hangers were distributed in the City of Norwich and surrounding county towns and villages, with a total of 251 miles walked by the health department staff.

“You can prevent sedentary lifestyles and lead poisoning. We hope to see you next year for our annual Lead Walk,” said a release from the department.
