Raymond Corp. announces youth apprenticeship program

GREENE — The Raymond Corporation recently recognized high school seniors who have spent around two years contributing to Raymond through its Youth Apprenticeship Program at its headquarters in Greene, N.Y. The apprenticeship program at Raymond allows students to experience what careers are available in the manufacturing industry. Held in conjunction with Broome-Tioga Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) and the Greene School District in New York, the apprenticeship program has welcomed 2 to 3 students per year since 1991.

“Students participating in the Youth Apprentice program learn to connect with others and drive desired outcomes in ways their peers miss,” says Teal Gaylord, coordinator of the Youth Apprenticeship Program at Raymond. “The students graduating from this program truly have a competitive edge that I hope they will carry with them as they create their futures.”

To recognize our current apprentices, Raymond held an apprenticeship event on the morning of May 27, 2014. Student apprentices were able to share the skills they have acquired as a result of the program highlighting increased knowledge related to warranty return, quality testing, information systems, and employee training.

The Youth Apprenticeship Program, coordinated through BOCES, is part of Raymond’s commitment to improve the future of manufacturing. It allows junior and senior high school students to explore multiple career options in the material handling industry. The program provides a firsthand look at the intricacies of manufacturing and encourages students in their career pursuits.

Attesting to the overall success of this program, Raymond has hired many past participants as full-time employees at its headquarters with the most recent hire being in April of 2014, when Andrew Norton was hired as a Business Development Representative in Raymond’s iWAREHOUSE Sales group.
