Body of missing man recovered from Chenango River

TOWN OF CHENANGO – The body of a missing Greene man was recovered today from the Chenango River in the Town of Chenango by members of the New York State Police.

Steven Moran, 57, was first reported missing on Dec. 11, 2013, and was last seen at his neighbor's residence on State Highway 12 in the Town of Greene on Dec. 9, 2013.

At the time Moran was reported missing, family members advised authorities that Moran suffers from bipolar disorder.

According to authorities, the body was recovered as a result of search detail that lasted a one week period.

The body that was recovered from the river was positively identified as Moran via dental records.

No signs of foul play were revealed.

Per a release from the State Police an autopsy was conducted today and Moran’s death was ruled to be a drowning complicated by hypothermia.

The New York State Police SCUBA team was assisted at the scene by the New York State Forest Rangers and Chenango County Sheriff’s Department.
