Just in time for Easter, the Joint Recreation and Greene Playground Committees are co-sponsoring a Ham and Turkey Raffle on March 29 at 7 p.m. at the Genegantslet Golf Club.

The Ham and Turkey raffle will help both committees reach their goals for the children of Greene and surrounding areas.

The two committees have worked hand-in-hand in preparation for the event with the goal of increased public support. The collaborative will split the proceeds from the day's fundraising venture and apply the monies raised after expenses to their respective funds which will be utilized directly towards area youth in one way or another.

Specifically, the Joint Recreation Committee (JRC) provides a six week summer program which includes programming by way of swimming lessons administered by certified instructors and life guards, arts and crafts activities, recreational games and bus transportation. This program is under the direction of well qualified individuals and a very enthusiastic group of youth counselors who are all local students.

Not only does the JRC-funded program serve to benefit the enrolled children; it also offers leadership opportunities as well as a part-time job to the high school aged staff during the summer months.
