Patriot Guard Riders salute local authorities

NORWICH – The local chapter of the Patriot Guard Riders, a nonprofit organization committed to honoring the country's bravest, paid respect to local leaders in public safety during a special meeting held over the weekend.

Members of the Patriot Guard Riders gathered at Denny's restaurant in Norwich on Saturday for a recognition ceremony honoring Norwich City Police Chief Joseph Angelino, Norwich Fire Chief Tracy Chawgo and Chenango County Sheriff Ernest Cutting for their countless efforts in helping the organization carry out its mission. The three have collectively played a major role in Patriot Guard functions over the years and according to Alex “Lex” Danyluk, Ride Captain for NY Patriot Guard Riders regions two and five, they are more than worthy of the spotlight.

“Whenever we do a ride, a memorial ride or any military type ride, they have been there to help us out,” Danyluk said. Whether blocking off traffic, hanging a flag to ride under, or providing police escort for memorials and funeral processions, the Sheriff's Office, Norwich Police and Norwich Fire Department have been there to help, he added. “It's a proud moment – to ride with 100-150 people underneath an American flag. It really is an honor for us.”
