Norwich 42, Sidney 34

NORWICH – Norwich quickly regrouped from a three-point loss to Chenango Forks one night earlier defeating Sidney Wednesday on senior recognition night.

Freshman Carter Hubbard (126) clinched the Tornado matmen’s victory with a technical fall over the Warriors’ Ryan Arnold. Hubbard’s victory was preceded by victories from teammates Cole Rifanburg (120), and Ty Rifanburg (106).

“We had some really good wins tonight from our young kids,” said Norwich coach Terry Hagenbuch. Hagenbuch was referencing the two aforementioned Rifanburgs and Hubbard. “Ty had a big win and Cole is wrestling extremely well. Carter is the same.”

Norwich’s lineup remains weakened by injury and illness as it heads into Friday’s dual meet tournament matchup against Greene. The Tornado host the Trojans at 6 p.m. “They have some holes in their lineup and we have some holes,” Hagenbuch. “It all comes down to the draw.”

NHS seniors Marcus Dodd and Billy Clipston were honored before the meet’s start.
