NORWICH – While the weather outside dipped below zero Friday night, Norwich’s offense reached the lower 90s inside Jack Jones Gymnasium.

The Tornado scored their highest point total in at least 20 seasons as everyone on the roster found the scoring column in a 92-28 blowout of a young Chenango Forks club.

Down 4-2 to the Blue Devils less than 90 seconds in, the Purple Tornado’s relentless full-court pressure forced 10 Forks turnovers in the first quarter. Norwich went on a 16-0 run over a four-minute stretch of the first quarter to quickly pull away. That spurt was complemented by a 9-0 spurt in the second quarter and a 14-0 salvo in the third.

“We did a great job of finding the open man and knocking down shots,” said Norwich coach Josh Bennett after the win. “We also did a much better job with receiving passes.”

Norwich’s junior varsity set the tone for prolific night of offense reaching 50 points by halftime in a 75-21 whitewashing. Bridget Murphy scored 21 points in the win, Gabby Mirabito had 12, and Macalyn Bonner 10.
