New wine store toasts to grand opening

NORWICH – A new business located just south of the city is setting out to make a splash in the local wine and spirits market, opening just in time to ring in the holidays and offer local wine connoisseurs a taste of something new.

Enrique Viera, owner of South End Wine and Liquor, opened the doors of his new business for the first time on Nov. 22, only days before Thanksgiving. Despite being Chenango County’s newest licensed liquor dealer, he said business so far has been steady and word of his new store is quickly pouring into the area.

“We really wanted to open up in time for the holidays. We haven’t done any official advertising yet,” Viera said. “But like any other business, we are doing what we can to get the word out.”

Located at 102 Gilmore Lane in the Town of Norwich – inside the building that once housed The Sleep Shop – Viera, proprietor of the building, said he hopes his outside the city location won’t cork the flow of business as it continues to grow. Being a new business, selection isn’t quite where he wants it to be, he added; but hopes are that will change in the near future as the business strives to offer the broadest wine list in the county and an extensive selection of liquors.
