NORWICH – A local man in the National Guard pleaded guilty to rape and was sentenced on Dec. 2 in Chenango County Court.

Kyle W. Braman, 29, Binghamton, was originally charged with the class D felony of rape in the second degree, the class D felony of criminal sexual act in the second degree and the class A misdemeanor of endangering the welfare of a child. Before being indicted, it is alleged that Braman contacted the victim in order to influence her testimony. He pleaded not guilty to these allegations.

Braman changed his plea to guilty for the class D felony of rape in the second degree. He testified to having sexual relations with a female who was less than 15 years old.

Braman has been incarcerated for 120 days in the Chenango County Correctional Facility since his arrest for rape and plans to be released this weekend. He is a member of the National Guard and expects to be discharged some time after his release from jail.
