NORWICH – Despite one of the coldest race days on record, the 32nd edition of the Norwich YMCA Turkey Trot Sunday afternoon brought out a record number of entries and a record number of finishers over the 3.18-mile course.

With a wind-chill-factor dipping near zero degrees, Walton’s Scott Gleason captured the men’s and overall title Sunday timing 17:01. Trish Horan, a fixture among top women’s runners for years, gained the ladies’ title clocking in at 20:50.

Norwich YMCA Fitness and Wellness director, Shannon Gawronski, was impressed with the determination of this year’s field, one that was running into a brisk headwind for at least half of the race. “The weather really was the story today,” Gawronski said.

Flurries and winds up to 20 miles per hour did not slow the 537 runners who completed the race. YMCA executive director, Jamey Mullen, said that 676 entries were registered to easily top the previous-best record.

Mullen also thanked this year’s sponsors: NBT Bank, Chobani, Preferred Mutual Insurance Company, Norwich Pennysaver, Electron Coil Inc., Burrell's Excavating, Norwich Pharma Services, Reese-Marshall Oil Company, Tops Friendly Markets, Stewart’s Shops, Matthews Ford, The Evening Sun, Sidney Federal Credit Union, New York Central Mutual Insurance, Howard Johnson, Frontier Communications, Wilson Funeral Home, Arby's, The Trophy Guy, Save-A-Lot, Wise, and Broad Street United Methodist Church.

Below are the top three finishers in each age division. The YMCA will have complete results available on its website: www.norwichymca.com.
