OWEGO - Norwich came within five strokes of three-peating as Section IV, Class B champions.

The Tornado linksters placed second behind STAC division champion Windsor, Tuesday afternoon at The Links at Hiawatha Landing.

Led by freshman Ryan Johnson's 75, the second-best overall score of the day, Norwich continued to surprise head coach Bob Branham. "The kids did great, and when the scores were coming in, I thought we might actually pull it out," the NHS mentor said. "With this group of young kids, a 417 (team score) is superb."

Johnson was red-hot out of the gate birdieing six of his first 11 holes. His three-over-par score was one shot behind overall medalist - and fellow freshman - D.J. Griffiths of Susquehanna Valley.
