We’ve got a lot going on, Patrollers! The DVD Patrol has a lot to talk about. We even have a little news about our favorite Golden Avenger, too. I’m sad to report that one of our favorite patrollers is no longer with us, but more on that later. Here we are ... going into The Vault.

New on DVD

Silver Linings Playbook - A person’s life is never set in stone and can work out differently than we plan. Pat’s (Bradley Cooper) life took an unexpected turn after everything he had he seemed to lose all in a short amount of time. He gets in trouble and gets sent away for awhile as a way of setting things right. Time passes by and he returns home to start life again living with his parents. He wants to get a new start with his wife, but things don’t start out right. Pat gets help from an uTnexpected source after he meets a kindred spirit in the form of Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence). She offers to help him with his wife, but wants something in return; she wants him to enter a dance contest with her. As they get closer, a bond starts to form. Are Pat and Tiffany going to win the contest and possibly each other’s love? Both Lawrence and Cooper have teamed up again for another project called “American Hustle,” currently being worked on and to be released sometime next year.

Broken City - They always say you have to have the right temperament for the trade. Billy Taggart (Mark Wahlberg) was a cop, but his temper got the better of him and managed to get him get kicked off the force. He decided to become a Private Investigator, and this has served him pretty well. Billy manages to get the attention of the Mayor (Russell Crowe). He wants him to follow his wife (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and find out if she has been seeing someone behind his back. It’s always said if you go looking for answers, you might not always like what you find. During his investigation, Billy starts to find things that the mayor doesn’t want anyone else to know about. He frames Billy and the police start to go after him. Can Billy clear his name and find out the truth? Wahlberg can currently be seen in theaters now in ‘Pain and Gain” and will be teaming with Denzel Washington in August in a film called “2 Guns.” Also, Crowe takes flight with Superman in “Man of Steel,” in theaters June 14.

Movie Memories

I’ve decided to dedicate this patrol to a very special patroller who left us this week. Steve Campbell was my uncle, and he passed away rather suddenly. I spent a great deal of my childhood years at his house with his family and we always did a lot of things together. One thing was going to the movies and this was one passion we’ve always shared. He always had a big VHS collection, later DVDs.

I remember one trip we took after we got done with farm chores; Steve had decided to take my cousins and I to see the Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, “Predator.” This was one of the only times I can remember we would go to the late show up to New Hartford. We all enjoyed it and this was one of the first times we can recall Schwarzenegger being in real danger in a movie. Another movie that comes to mind – “Ghostbusters” – which we saw in Hamilton.

It’s funny how you always think of the little things you did with those who are no longer with us. He stopped at my house not that long ago to say hello to my brother and me. I only wish I had spent a little more time with him in later years. However, people’s lives get busier and you lose touch with those who mean a lot to you. No one is ever gone as long as we remember them. He’ll be laid to rest on Saturday, and I’ll be there with his family and mine to pay our respects and see him off to the next movie reel on a different plane ... we’ll see you in the sequel. May the movies keep getting better for those who are no longer with us and see what’s playing in that great Movie Theater in the Sky. Bon Voyage, Steve!

Back to business. You’ll have your choice to go see “Iron Man 3” in either the Hamilton Theater or the Colonia Theater in Norwich. As for me, I’ll be in Norwich this week catching our favorite Avenger. More reviews coming in the following weeks. Also, If you’re a fan of 3-D, you’ll get your wish. Until next time, the Toddster says “Happy Viewing!”
